In a bizarre incident, a pest control manager was stunned to find a crocodile in a bathroom in London.

Steve North, a pest control manager, was carrying out door-to-door examination to advertise Southwark Council’s service when he saw the 2-ft-long creature at an apartment’s bathroom in Peckham.

When he quizzed about the crocodile, the apartment tenant revealed that he was looking after the crocodile for a friend.

“I followed him in. What I didn’t expect was to be eyeballed by a 2ft long crocodile, happily lounging in the bath,” the Telegraph quoted North as saying.

A team of animal control experts was called in soon afterwards, which then took it away.

Meanwhile, another pest control officer, Leslie Leonard, was asked to go to a home in Walworth, south London, to collect an unwanted guinea pig and a rabbit.

He, however, found more than one million cockroaches there.

The US Standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails) is 4 feet, 8.5 inches. That’s an exceedingly odd number. Why was that gauge used? Because that’s the way they built them in England, and the US railroads were built by English expatriates. Why did the English people build them like that? Because the first rail lines were built by the same people who built the pre-railroad tramways, and that’s the gauge they used. Why did “they” use that gauge then? Because the people who built the tramways used the same jigs and tools that they used for building wagons, which used that wheel spacing.

Why did the wagons use that odd wheel spacing? Well, if they tried to use any other spacing the wagons would break on the old long distance roads, because that’s the spacing of the old wheel ruts. So who built these old rutted roads? The first long distance roads in Europe were built by Imperial Rome for the benefit of their legions. The roads have been used ever since. And the ruts? The initial ruts, which everyone else had to match for fear of destroying their wagons, were first made by Roman war chariots. Since the chariots were made for or by Imperial Rome they were all alike in the matter of wheel spacing.

Thus, we have the answer to the original questions. The United States standard railroad gauge of 4 feet, 8.5 inches derives from the original specification for an Imperial Roman army war chariot. Specs and Bureaucracies live forever. So, the next time you are handed a specification and wonder what horse’s behind came up with it, you may be exactly right. Because the Imperial Roman chariots were made to be just wide enough to accommodate the back-ends of two warhorses.

The brand spanking new Airbus 340-600, the largest passenger airplane ever built, sat in its hangar in Toulouse, France without a single hour of airtime.  Enter the Arab flight crew of Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies (ADAT) on November 15, 2007 to conduct pre-delivery tests on the ground, such as engine run-ups, prior to delivery to Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi.

The ADAT crew taxied the A340-600 to the run-up area. Then they took all four engines to

takeoff power with a virtually empty aircraft.  Not having read the run-up manuals, they had no clue just how light an empty A340-600 really is.

The takeoff warning horn was blaring away in the cockpit because they had all 4 engines at full power. The aircraft computers thought they were trying to takeoff but it had not been configured properly (flaps/slats, etc.) Then one of the ADAT crew decided to pull the circuit breaker on the Ground Proximity Sensor to silence the alarm.

This fools the aircraft into thinking it is in the air.

The computers automatically released all the brakes and set the aircraft rocketing forward. The ADAT crew had no idea that this is a safety feature so that pilots can’t land with the brakes on.

Not one member of the seven-man Arab crew was smart enough to throttle back the engines from their max power20setting, so the $200 million brand-new aircraft crashed into a blast barrier, totaling it.

The extent of injuries to the crew is unknown, for there has been a news blackout in the major media in France and elsewhere.  Coverage of the story was deemed insulting to Moslem Arabs.  Finally, the photos are starting to leak out.

Wild boars thwart thief’s getaway

A herd of wild boars has thwarted a suspected car thief’s getaway. Police in Schwerin, northern Germany, said the 18-year-old abandoned a stolen vehicle he was driving after failing to shake off a chasing patrol car by driving into a field.

The driver initially got away by running into nearby woods.

But officers then heard the fugitive shouting for help – he had run into a herd of angry wild boars which were keen to protect their young.

Police rescued the man from the boars – and took him into custody.

Monkey Guardian Angel NEW DELHI (Reuters) -
They say it takes a thief to catch a thief, but India’s Delhi Metro has hired a monkey to frighten off other monkeys from boarding trains and upsetting passengers. The langur monkey, trained since the age of three months, has been patrolling monkey- prone stations on a leash. In June, a monkey boarded a train at the underground Chawri Bazaar station and reportedly scared passengers by scowling at them for three stops. It then alighted at Civil Lines station.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporationsays it hopes the new hire will avert a repeat of that episode. “It started working about a month ago and since then we’ve not had a single incident,” said Anuj Dayal, a metro spokesman. The langur’s keeper — or langurwallah — is being paid 6,900 rupees ($150) a month. Langur monkeys are similarly employed around the grounds of parliament and some government buildings in New Delhi.

Gun-toting granny Ava Estelle, 81, was so ticked-off when two thugs
raped her 18-year-old granddaughter that she tracked the unsuspecting
ex-cons down – - and shot off their testicles.

The old lady spent a week hunting those men down — and when she
found them, she took revenge on them in her own special way, said
Melbourne police investigator Evan Delp. Then she took a taxi to the
nearest police station, laid the gun on the sergeant’s desk and told
him as calm as could be:

‘Those bastards will never rape anybody again, by God.’ Cops say
convicted rapist and robber Davis Furth, 33, lost both his penis and
his testicles when outraged Ava opened fire with a 9-mm pistol in the
hotel room wherehe and former prison cell mate Stanley Thomas, 29,
were holed up.

The wrinkled avenger also blew Thomas’ testicles to kingdom come, but
doctors managed to save his mangled penis, police said. The one guy,
Thomas, didn’t lose his manhood, but the doctor I talked to said he
won’t be using it the way he used to, Detective Delp told reporters.
Both men are still in pretty bad shape, but I think they’re just
happy to be alive after what they’ve been through.

The Rambo Granny swung into action August 21 after her granddaughter
Debbie was carjacked and raped in broad daylight by two
knife-wielding creeps in a section of town bordering on skid row.
“When I saw the look on my Debbie’s face that night in the hospital,
I decided I was going to go out and get those bastards myself ’cause
I figured the Law would go easy on them,”

recalled the retired library worker. “And I wasn’t scared of them,
either– because I’ve got me a gun and I’ve been shooting’ all my
life. And I wasn’t dumb enough to turn it in when the law changed
about owning one.”

So, using a police artist’s sketch of the suspects and Debbie’s
description of the sickos’, tough-as-nails Ava spent seven days
prowling the wino-infested neighborhood where the crime took place
till she spotted the illfated rapists entering their flophouse hotel
I knew it was them the minute I saw ‘em, but I shot a picture of ‘em
anyway and took it back to Debbie and she said sure as hell, it was
them, the oldster recalled.

So I went back to that hotel and found their room and knocked on the
door and the minute the big one, , opened the door, I shot ‘em right
square between the legs, right where it would really hurt ‘em most, you know.

Then I went in and shot the other one as he backed up pleading
me to spare him. Then I went down to the police station and turned myself in.

Now, baffled lawmen are trying to figure out exactly how to deal with
the vigilante granny. What she did was wrong, and she broke the law,
but it is difficult to throw an 81-year-old woman in prison, Det.
Delp said, especially when 3 million people in the city want to
nominate her for Mayor.

I’d say – DEPORT HER TO INDIA — WE NEED HER !!
