It is quite natural for even the most efficient and energetic businessman to feel discouraged and lose hopes. You may have even wondered why the job that you loved all your life now seems cumbersome and boring to you. All of us go through a rough or a boring patch at some point of time or the other. This holds good even for your motorbike. The bike that seemed pretty good all this while may suddenly start throwing tantrums, refusing to start. This may have been caused by the misalignment inside the choke, which if not corrected immediately may lead to a breakdown, very soon.
The aforesaid statement holds good even in the case of your career and your business. The moment things go awry, be sure that everything has gone out of track. Try to find out where you are going wrong.
Be sure to achieve your first targets in business before you leap on to greater heights. Have a clear idea of what your mission is. Once you are through with your first target, take steps to ascertain the progress you have made so far and the current position of your firm. Check if there have been any deviations from what you had planned and if there have been any negative deviations, then remember to correct them the next time you execute the task.
Quite often, the misalignment that we experience is caused by deviations happening within ourselves rather than the external environment. For instance, if you have just attained fatherhood and have to convene and attend a business meeting of immense importance, you need to be clear about your priorities. Albeit your business may seem important to you, the inward voice within you will constantly remind you of your familial priorities and responsibilities thus leading to disturbances and struggles between your heart and your mind. Emotionally, you will begin to feel guilty or sad at not being able to spend time with your baby and rationally, you will lose focus in your work and feel de-motivated. This may lead to anger.
A good way to learn how to prioritize things in your life, both personally and professionally, is to take a piece of paper and write a list of what your various needs and desires are. Then start ranking your needs, wants and desires on the basis of the urgency, intensity and importance of the needs and set a date for them as a deadline within which you want to achieve them. Order your needs based on which one you want to achieve first and which ones can be postponed. Your needs can be as wild and imaginative as wishing for a house atop a mountain beside a beautiful brook or even as simple as a promotion in your office.
Think of what kind of business plans you can make for the forthcoming year and what will be the appropriate investment for the same. Jot down how much time you will need to realize that target and devise a time table and put down your work schedule and learn to stick to the schedule. This may seem tough initially, but you will find it easy in the long run. Also make sure to evaluate your business performance periodically. Once your personal and professional lives are organized, then everything will fall into place.
