Om Shanti Om

SRK’s six pack, Deepika’s debut film, 31 stars in an a special appearance, the big clash with Saawariya…..Om Shanti Om, one of the biggest releases of the year has been talked about so much that you cant help wonder if the movie will actually live up to all the hype. Well, it doesn’t Very Happy
But OSO doesn’t disappoint either.

The story is no great shakes. It starts off in the 1970’s with Om Prakash Makijha(SRK), a junior artist, son of junior artists who wants to make it big in Bollywood but doesn’t have the requisite last name Wink Om is also madly in love with the reigning queen of Bollywood, Shanti(Deepika Padukone) n has endless conversations with her life size posters!
But then Om saves Shanti from a fire accident on the sets n a friendship blossoms between the two. All is looking hunky dory for Om when Shanti is murdered by her ambitious producer, Mukesh(Arjun Rampal) to whom she is secretly married. Om dies trying to save Shanti who also perishes in the fire.

Om is reborn as OK, Om Kapoor, son of a superstar n a huge star himself.
A chance visit to the abandonded studio where Om and Shanti died starts to bring memories back to OK and when he meets the much older Mike aka Mukesh now a successful Hollywood producer he swears to avenge Shanti’s death.
After a tearful reunion with his or rather Om’s mom(Kiron Kher) n best buddy(Shreyas Talpade) OK decides to relaunch Om Shanti Om…….the movie Shanti was working on when she was murdered with Mikey as the producer. With the help of Sandy, a Shanti clone OK is all set to get Mike aka Mukesh to confess his henious crimes but Mukesh may prove to be more of a match than OK bargained for.

Om Shanti Om is a tribute of sorts to the 70’s. It has the overacting mom, corny lines, crazy hairdo’s n wacky song sequences. It takes off from Main Hoon Na. It has lotsa hamming, lotsa spoofing n plenty of overacting Smile
But all in all OSO is fun. Though the second half loses pace OSO is enjoyable if all you are looking for is a fun ride.

Shah Rukh Khan is well Shah Rukh Khan Laughing. He happily goes over the top, over the moon over the everything actually. Though his “aw fish” OK act tends to get on your nerves.

Deepika Padukone deserves every bit of hype that has surrounded her. The lady is charming, beautiful and amazingly confident for a newcomer.

Arjun Rampal plays the baddie with panache. And looks a dish even with the grey hair and all. Sigh!! Embarassed

Shreyas Talpade is a delight as always. He doesn’t have too much to do though and you wish you saw more of him.

So if you wanna chill out with pals or family Om Shanti Om it is. Leave your logic behind and you’ll enjoy the ride.
Come, watch Deepika smile and fall in love Wink
