Parents generally dread the adolescent age because this is the time when an adolescent can either mend his life or destruct it. There have been reports in the recent times stating the increasing number of teenagers getting addicted to gambling.
This type of behavior is common among those teenagers who face frequent drops in their school grades or have low self-esteem. Many teenagers coming from broken families often take up to this addiction as a way out to support themselves. While some takes inspiration from their parents and blame them for their addiction. Getting into wrong company at an early age or being an avid follower of the poker tournaments on television might result to this.
When parents stay aloof of the ongoing happenings of theirs child’s life, a child tend to feel agitated or starts feeling left out and hence they might start feeling suicidal at times.
When the parents are confronted about these issues and are forced to educate themselves, they tend to have more queries rather than solutions! Frequent queries excuses or queries that come from a parent’s side are “what steps is the school taking to deal with this? How should I know where my child is going or what company he is keeping? Will the school compensate for the medical fees?â€
Many parents don’t tend to confront it upfront about their teenagers addiction. Though it is agreed that it is not possible to track a teenagers whereabouts but staying mum about the addiction isn’t a solution either. Education is the key. Once you come to know about your child’s addiction, try addressing the issue to other parents facing similar situation.
Taking professional help is also advisable or else you can also try addressing this issue with your child and explaining him the negative affects of it. Ignorance does not provide any solutions but addressing the issue and seeking a solution might be beneficial.
